Tulsa is home to some fabulous museums and cultural centers, including the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame, the Philbrook Museum of Art, the Tulsa Air and Space Museum, and the Will Rogers Memorial. The Greenwood Cultural Center celebrates historic Greenwood, a black business community that flourished in the 1920s before the awful Tulsa Race Riot, one of the most horrible events in the city’s history. The J.M. Davis Arms and Historical Museum is home to the largest private gun collection in the world, while the Sherwin Miller Museum of Jewish Art allows visitors to enjoy the Southwest’s largest collection of Judaica. Other interesting historical places to visit include the Thomas Gilcrease Museum of Art and the Tulsa Historical Center.
Music and the Performing Arts are also common to downtown Tulsa, further enhancing the culture the city has to offer. Music offerings include the Tulsa Opera, the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra, and the Tulsa Oratorio Chorus. Performing Arts can be seen in Tulsa at the Brady Theater, the Nightingale Theater, the Tulsa Ballet, Cain’s Ballroom, the South Tulsa Children’s Ballet, the Tulsa Spotlight Theater, and the Tulsa Performing Arts Center. Outstanding theatre opportunities exist in the city at the Clark Theatre, Discoveryland!, and Theatre Tulsa.
Tulsa is also home to some of the most beautiful places to see nature itself. The city’s River Parks are home to many festivals each year, and they have jogging trails, picnic areas, and many other attractions. If you visit the Oklahoma Aquarium, you can walk right through the shark tank! If you love animals but that sounds a little scary for you, you’ll definitely want to check out the Tulsa Zoo, one of the best in the world. In a recent contest, Tulsa’s zoo was selected as the best in the United States. There are over 140 parks in the Tulsa Metro area, with such features as golf courses, swimming pools, fitness centers, meeting facilities, ball fields and picnic shelters. Other attractions include the Tulsa Municipal Rose Garden and the Oxley Nature Center, both with breathtaking displays and exhibits.
