Day Two

Yesterday, we planned the entire day for you. Today, it’s your turn to make the plans. We’ll give you several options for today, and you can choose what is more enjoyable for you. We’ll “package” the options together, but feel free to mix and match them as you see fit. Remember, it’s your vacation! Do all you can to enjoy it!

Option One: For the Sports Fan

If you love sports, Tulsa is a great place to be. Depending on the season, there’s a chance you could take in one or even two games today. If you’re a baseball fan, the Tulsa Drillers are a minor league team playing in the Colorado League. If basketball is more to your liking, the Tulsa 66ers play in the National Basketball Association’s Developmental League. This gives you an opportunity to see tomorrow’s NBA stars before they arrive in the league! If it’s football you seek, Tulsa is home to one of the most entertaining sporting events around, the Arena Football League. The Talons are Tulsa’s team in this league. Minor league hockey (the Tulsa Oilers) is also available. Check around to see if any of these teams are playing at home, and then head out and get tickets. Also look into whether any of the local colleges are playing home games in any of their sports!

Option Two: For the Arts Fan

If the arts are your gig, there are plenty of great options in the city. You’ll want to start your day by visiting the Sherwin Miller Museum of Jewish Art (2021 East 71st Street) or the Gilcrease Museum of Art (1400 North Gilcrease Museum Road). Take your choice of any of the fine restaurants in the area for lunch, then head to Cain’s Ballroom (423 North Main Street), the historic birthplace of swing dance! For dinner, find a quaint restaurant that features live indie music and enjoy hearing the fresh, young voices.

Option Three: For the Historian

Are you a history buff? Tulsa has a lot to offer you, as well. Begin your day at the J.M. Davis Arms and Historical Museum in nearby Claremore, which is home to the largest private gun collection in the world. From there, head to historic Greenwood. You can spend a large portion of the rest of your day here. Greenwood was known as “Black Wall Street” and was the home to great blues and jazz music during the 1920s. Find a place there for lunch, then head to the Greenwood Cultural Center to find out more about the history of this interesting part of town, including the Tulsa Race Riot, which was the most violent race riot in the history of the United States. While there, visit the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame. After enjoying dinner at The Polo Grill (2038 Utica Square), Tulsa’s #1-rated restaurant, head over to the Tulsa Air and Space Museum for a fascinating tour of the city’s role in aviation, especially since World War II.
