The Oklahoma City metropolitan area offers some of the finest entertainment available, ranging from exciting sporting events to outstanding music and theatre. The downtown area is home to numerous museums, an outstanding zoo, and numerous parks and observatories.
 
Bricktown
 
In the “Restaurants” section above, you noticed an area of town called Bricktown. This is not only a great place to find a place to eat, but a terrific place for some great entertainment. Located just a block away from the Downtown Convention Center, Bricktown is the fastest-growing and most exciting area in the city. With plenty of restaurants, shopping and entertainment, Bricktown provides a unique experience of Oklahoma City.
 
While you’re there, be sure to enjoy the Bricktown Canal, a mile-long waterway recently constructed right through the streets of the city. You can take a water taxi right through Bricktown, past the city’s minor league ballpark, underneath the highway and on to even more beautiful sights. Many of Bricktown’s restaurants sit just on the edge of the canal, providing an aesthetic, romantic atmosphere for all diners.
 
Bricktown is home to many upscale shops and other retailers, including the Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World, one of the largest of its kind anywhere, and a new 20-screen movie theater for your viewing enjoyment.
 
Attractions
 
Oklahoma City has many terrific opportunities and offerings for entertainment. The city has some incredible museums and galleries, focusing mostly on western life and cowboys, among other things. The 45th Infantry Division Museum details the military history of the state of Oklahoma, including a display of items collected from Adolph Hitler’s apartment after his capture by the 45th Infantry Division. The Harn Homestead Museum, listed in the National Register of Historic Places, depicts the history of the “Land Run,” during the late 19th Century. The Omniplex Museum, as the name would suggest, has something of interest to offer everyone! Other museums in town include the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, the National Softball Hall of Fame Museum, the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, the Oklahoma City National Memorial Museum, the State Museum of History, and the World Organization of China Painters Museum, among others.
 
Parks and outdoor nature are also featured in Oklahoma City. Coles Garden is a common location for weddings with its gorgeous floral gardens and superb sculptures. The Express Ranches Clydesdale Center is the home of over ten beautiful Clydesdale horses, living in a vintage barn! The Myriad Botanical Gardens is one of the most popular and lovely locations in the city. These 17 acres include beautiful landscaping, rolling hills, and the Crystal Bridge. Other places of interest for those who love the outdoors include the Oklahoma City Rocks Climbing Center, the Orr Family Farm, Read Ranch, and, of course, the Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World.
 
The Oklahoma City Zoological Park is the oldest zoo in the Southwest United States and is one of the best zoos in the country. Over 2,000 animals inhabit these 110 acres, including picnic shelters, rides, concessions, and all kinds of other entertainment.
 
Spectator Sports
 
Oklahoma City is a tremendous city for the sports fan! The city is the shared home of one major professional sports team, the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets of the National Basketball Association. The team, which used to only call New Orleans home, began playing some of its games in Oklahoma City after Hurricane Katrina devastated the city of New Orleans.
 
There are many other opportunities to take in minor league professional sports in Oklahoma City. The Oklahoma RedHawks are a minor league baseball team from the Pacific Coast League. The Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz play in the exciting Arena Football League. The Oklahoma Storm play minor league basketball in the United States Basketball League, while the Oklahoma City Blazers represent the Central Hockey League. The city even has a women’s football team, the Oklahoma City Lightning!
 
College sports are huge in Oklahoma City. Oklahoma University is located in the southern suburb of Norman and is one of the most famous football programs in college football history. Both Oklahoma University and Oklahoma State University play a few basketball games in the Ford Center, which has also hosted tournament games for both the Big 12 Conference and the NCAA Tournament. The NCAA Women’s College World Series is played every year in Oklahoma City.
 
Performing Arts
 
The city of Oklahoma City offers many exciting opportunities for lovers of the performing arts. The city is home to several world class theatres, including the Carpenter Square Theatre, the Jewel Box Theatre, the Lyric Theatre, and the Stage Center. The Oklahoma Opry, performing every Saturday night, is Oklahoma’s premier country music entertainment opportunity. The Civic Center Music Hall has recently undergone a $52 million technological renovation, making it the best spot in town to see a Broadway show. Other opportunities for seeing the performing arts include Ballet Oklahoma, the Black Liberated Arts Center, the Canterbury Choral Society, and the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Orchestra.
