Oklahoma City is a tremendous city for the sports fan! The city is the shared home of one major professional sports team, the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets of the National Basketball Association. The team, which used to only call New Orleans home, began playing some of its games in Oklahoma City after Hurricane Katrina devastated the city of New Orleans.

There are many other opportunities to take in minor league professional sports in Oklahoma City. The Oklahoma RedHawks are a minor league baseball team from the Pacific Coast League. The Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz play in the exciting Arena Football League. The Oklahoma Storm play minor league basketball in the United States Basketball League, while the Oklahoma City Blazers represent the Central Hockey League. The city even has a women’s football team, the Oklahoma City Lightning!

College sports are huge in Oklahoma City. Oklahoma University is located in the southern suburb of Norman and is one of the most famous football programs in college football history. Both Oklahoma University and Oklahoma State University play a few basketball games in the Ford Center, which has also hosted tournament games for both the Big 12 Conference and the NCAA Tournament. The NCAA Women’s College World Series is played every year in Oklahoma City.
