Oklahoma City, Oklahoma: A Three-Day Vacation Guide
» Day Two
Yesterday, we planned the entire day for you. Today, it’s your turn to make the plans. We’ll give you several options for today, and you can choose what is more enjoyable for you. We’ll “package” the options together, but feel free to mix and match them as you see fit. Remember, it’s your vacation! Do all you can to enjoy it!
Option One: For the Sports Fan
If you love sports, Oklahoma City is a great place to be. Depending on the season, there’s a chance you could take in one or even two games today. Begin by finding out if the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets of the National Basketball Association are in town. If you prefer other sports to basketball, you can try baseball (Oklahoma RedHawks), arena football (Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz), women’s football (Oklahoma City Lightning), or hockey (Oklahoma City Blazers). You can also check to see if any of the local colleges and universities have home games in a sport you love, as college sports are always very entertaining.
Games aren’t your only choice for sports. There is lots of outstanding golf to be played in Oklahoma City, and there are even places you can go to learn about sports. Try the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame or the National Softball Hall of Fame and Museum, for example.
If you’re a fan of horse racing, you can always try the Remington Park Race Track!
Option Two: For the Arts Fan
If the arts are your gig, there are plenty of great options in the city. You’ll want to start your day by visiting the Oklahoma City Museum of Art (415 Couch Drive) or Untitled [ArtSpace] (1 Northeast 3rd Street), an extremely unique locale that showcases local artwork and exciting international art. Take your choice of any of the fine restaurants in the area for lunch, then head to City Arts Center (3000 Pershing Boulevard), which provides opportunities for visitors to interact with art exhibits! For dinner, find a quaint restaurant that features live indie music and enjoy hearing the fresh, young voices. If you’re there on Saturday, head over to 404 West Commerce and enjoy the Oklahoma Opry, the state’s premiere country music show!
Option Three: For the Historian
Are you a history buff? Oklahoma City has a lot to offer you, as well. Begin your day at the 45th Infantry Division Museum, where you can see a display of items collected from Hitler’s apartment after his capture by the 45th. From there, head to the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Memorial Museum, celebrating the memory of those killed in the tragic Oklahoma City bombing of 1995. After that, choose whichever of these sounds most interesting to you to squeeze in before dinner: the Governor’s Mansion (820 Northeast 23rd); Harn Homestead Museum (313 Northeast 16th); the Oklahoma Heritage Center (210 Northwest 14th); or the State Museum of History (2100 North Lincoln). After enjoying dinner at The Keller in the Kastle (820 Northwest MacArthur Boulevard), Oklahoma City’s #1-rated restaurant, head to Bricktown and enjoy a nighttime ride on the Bricktown Canal, the city’s famous pedestrian waterway.
