Day One

On the first day of vacation, you always want to sleep in a little bit. Depending on what you do for a living, this could mean sleeping until 7:00 AM or sleeping until noon. We’ll compromise and say you’d like to sleep until 9:30, which should give you time to catch your hotel’s continental breakfast.

After breakfast, hop in your car (or rental car) and head to 2101 Northeast 50th, where you’ll find the Oklahoma City Zoological Park, the oldest zoo in the Southwest United States. By the time you’re finished seeing over 2,000 animals on 110 acres, it will be near lunch time. Head over to the Paseo District (Northwest 30th and Dewey), where you’ll find quaint restaurants and lots to keep you busy. Spend a good portion of your afternoon here, eating lunch, walking the streets, checking out the shops and art galleries, and having an overall relaxing time. From here drive to 5000 West Memorial, where you’ll find the Martin Park Nature Center, an enormous protected natural wildlife habitat where you can see all kinds of animals native to Oklahoma City.

These activities will take you right up to dinner time. Oklahoma City offers some great places for you to have dinner! In order to truly get into the Oklahoma culture, we recommend Ted’s Café Escondito (8324 Southwestern) for dinner. If you’re not a fan of Mexican, try The Redrock Canyon Grill (9221 Lake Hefner Parkway), a great atmosphere for dinner. After dinner is over, be sure to hit a Jamba Juice smoothie place for dessert!

You’re probably worn out, and we’re just getting started! This probably is a good time to call it a day, though, so head back to your hotel and get some rest…We have a full day tomorrow!
