What is Mailing Equipment?

Mailing equipment is certainly about scales, the weight of an envelope or package, and postage, but there are also machines that can do much to assist with everyday mailing needs. Some machines can moisten and seal envelopes, others can open envelopes, and still others can bind stacks of pages together in a book or tablet form. The faithful office copier is a form of mailing equipment if you use it to produce letters or brochures which will be mailed. Some of those letters and brochures will need to be folded to fit in the proper envelope. That folding machine is a piece of mailing equipment. When your mailing is printed and folded, there are machines that can stuff it into an envelope, print the proper postage, barcode the envelope, and address the envelope for you.

No matter how much mail comes in or goes out of a business, mailing equipment is necessary. Many offices make the mistake of thinking that they have been just fine without mailing equipment in the past, but the truth is that they have been using equipment; they have just had to walk or drive to the post office to gain access to it.

Having mailing equipment in the office will save time, money and aggravation, and will virtually eliminate the need to drive to the post office for any reason. Older versions of postage meters had to be returned to the post office to purchase additional postage, but newer systems allow for “refilling” a postage meter simply by placing a phone call.
