» How should I choose an Access Control System dealer?
As access control systems have become more and more common, the number of retailers engaged in the sale of such systems has also increased. That increase is positive in that you have a better chance of finding a good dealer in your area, but it also increases your chances of encountering a suspect retailer. As you discuss your options with various dealers, think about the factors listed below:
- Expertise: How much does the dealer actually know about the product it sells? There are now a number of access control system retailers for whom the control systems are but one of a wide range of available products. There are exceptions, but in general you’ll want to look for a dealer that specializes in access control systems, for they’re more likely to be experts in the field.
- Willingness to work closely with your business: Is the dealer willing and able to discuss the details of your security needs with you, or are you instead given only a general sales pitch for a system that may or may not suit those needs? If the complexity of the control system demands it, is the dealer capable of training you and your staff in its use?
- Technical support: Regardless of the simplicity of your access control system, it’s not unlikely that you’ll occasionally need help with certain aspects of the system. You may also find that the system requires sporadic upgrades or repairs. Does the dealer possess a staff capable of handling necessary upgrades or repairs, and is that expertise available to you at a reasonable cost?
