Charlotte is located in what is known as North America’s humid subtripic climate zone. Basically what this means is that Charlotte has cold winters and warm summers. The city can experience large snow storms in the winter and can also be subject to thunderstorms and even hurricanes in the spring and summer months. The average daytime temperature in the winter for Charlotte is 51 degrees and the summer sees an average daytime temperature of 85 degrees. Due to North Carolina’s coastal location Charlotte can fall prey to hurricanes even though it is located inland. In 1989 Hurricane Huge caused major damage to Charlotte when it hit the city directly.
