Although grants sometimes benefit individuals, they are primarily awarded to nonprofit organizations seeking financial support for research and related activities in specific subject areas or fields. While there are a variety of possibilities for fund recipients, the following list shows some of the types of organizations that grants assist:

• Community revitalization
• Education
• Health and human services
• Technology
• Sports

Examples of programs that would be very likely to be awarded grant funding would be those that improve the standard of living for low-income families or the levels of education from preschool to graduate.
