Two very interesting sites to see in this area are Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge and the Gila National Forrest. Nature lovers, and especially bird watchers, will be thrilled with the wildlife refuge of Bosque del Apache that sits along the banks of the Rio Grande River. The Gila National Forrest was once home to the Mogollan Indians whose past is preserved for visitors to view in the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument.
