The New Jersey Navel Museum is located in Hackensack, New Jersey. The museum is open Saturday and Sunday from 10:00-4:00. The last tour starts at 3:15. The museum contains a number of different exhibits, along with unique items ranging from a SEAL delivery vehicle to personal photos and effects. The USS Ling 297 is a BALAO class fleet submarine. The Submarine is three hundred and twelve feet long and weighs two thousand five-hundred tons. The Patrol Boat Riverine boats were used in Vietnam. There are only a few boats still around. Many have been sold to foreign navies, stripped for parts. or destroyed. The Patrol Boat Riverine in the New Jersey Naval Museum is the only one in the Northeastern United States. The German Seahund means "SEAL seadog". A two man coastal defense submarine used in World War II. The submarine is thirty-nine feet long and almost six inches wide. The seahund was used for shallow water and coastal defense. Two torpedoes could be launched from external rails on each side of the boat. There is plenty to do and see at the museum. You can take school groups, boy scout troops, and even have birthday parties at the museum.
