Everyone is talking about yesterday's motorcycle crash of Ben Roethlisberger, the Pittsburgh Steelers' Super Bowl-winning quarterback. If you haven't heard, the moron wasn't wearing a helmet, but otherwise doesn't seem to be critically injured.

Ben Roethlisberger's high-profile motorcycle crash riveted public attention on the risks of riding without a helmet, but it is unlikely to bolster the case for state bans on bareheaded bikers.

The trend over the last several years has been to repeal helmet laws, said Rae Tyson, a spokesman for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in Washington, a leading advocate of laws requiring all motorcyclists to wear helmets.

I hope the trend continues, seeing as it's pointless in my mind to make a law that amounts to banning retards. It shouldn't be a law, just a choice between common sense and having the coroner scrape your gray matter off the sidewalk with a spatula.
