Because Monaco is such a small place, only a mile from end to end, most visitors get around by walking. However, there are many free lifts and elevators built in to the hillside to save your legs. There is also a bus system that runs from 7:30 am to 8:30 pm. Monaco buses are a safe, clean, and efficient way to travel. Taxis are another option for transportation in Monaco, but they are scarce. A person may need to call at least a day in advance to reserve one to go to the airport. The Monaco train station is fairly new and operates through tunnels in the mountainside. All trains running between France, Italy, and Menton are obligated to stop in Monaco. Travel by car is also an option, although parking may be a problem. There are public car parks everywhere and are free of charge for the first hour. On-street parking is very limited.
