Since 1911, Monaco has been governed as a constitutional monarchy with the Sovereign Prince Monaco as head of state. The current prince of Monaco is Prince Albert II. The executive branch of the government consists of a four-member cabinet, which is presided over by the Minister of State. He is appointed by the Prince from candidates proposed by the French Government. The Legislative branch is a Parliament consisting of 24 members who are elected from lists by universal suffrage.
