One weekend each year, several streets in Monaco are closed off to host the Formula One Monaco Grand Prix. The inaugural race was held in 1929 and was one by William Grover-Williams in a Bugatti. This tight and twisty circuit is also referred to as the “Monte Carlo” since it is held inside the Monte Carlo neighborhood in Monaco. It is a narrow and dangerous course that favors the skill of the drivers over the power of the cars and is considered less safe than other high profile Formula One circuits. It will likely remain on the Formula One calendar though because of its glamour and history.
