Spend the afternoon enjoying Mackinac Island, one of the state's most popular tourist destinations. The island is three miles long and two miles wide. The island does not allow any motorized vehicles, except for a fire truck, ambulance and public utilities truck. Otherwise, transportation is by bicycle, horse or carriage.
The island offers many enjoyable activities: shopping, horse
drawn carriage rides, horseback riding, hiking or bicycling through Mackinac Island State Park's 70 miles of trails, visiting Arch Rock, kayaking, swimming in the cool Straits of Mackinac, or visiting a butterfly exhibit at The Mackinac Island Butterfly House or the Wings of Mackinac Butterfly Conservatory at Surrey Hill.
Spend the night on the island in one of the many hotels or bed and breakfasts and be sure to enjoy some Mackinac Island fudge for a snack.
