American Coney Island, 114 W. Lafayette
Experience a Detroit classic – the coney dog. Founded in 1917 by Constantine “Gust” Keros from Greece, the restaurant has stayed in the family and is now owned and operated by one of Gust’s five sons, Charles. Open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
For a true Coney Island experience, order your dog topped with onions, mustard and chili.
 
Hockeytown Café, 2301 Woodward Ave.
Located next to the Fox Theater, the Hockeytown Café is a classic sports bar. Recently renovated, the café has a few dozen large-screen plasma televisions and custom motorcycles, as well as a new menu and bar. The menu includes fresh ground rounds and deep dish pizza.
 
New Hellas Café, 583 Monroe St.
The oldest restaurant in Greektown, the New Hellas Café was founded in 1901 and is still in the family. Menu includes authentic homemade Greek yogurt, with a pitcher of warm honey on the side. Popular menu items include lamb chops and the Hellas trio – moussaka, pastitsio and spinach cheese pie.
 
Mexican Village Restaurant, 2600 Bagley
Open since 1943, this is a popular choice for Mexican food. It is the oldest restaurant in Mexicantown. Popular menu items include fajitas, burritos, nachos and combination plates.
