From the coat of arms of the House of Baltimore the family motto is translated ‘Deeds are masculine, words feminine’. This is Maryland’s motto as well, and can be seen on their license plates, although it has been abbreviated to ‘Manly Deeds, Womanly Words’.

Baltimoreans call their town ‘Charm City’.
