Whether one wishes to visit or become a resident, Baltimore offers it all. There are plenty of major historical sites, as Baltimore was a key player both in Colonial history and the War of 1812. Baltimore offers much in the way of top notch shopping, dining, and entertainment too, and has been called home by poets, architects, musicians and authors as well as statesmen, businessmen and politicians. Baltimore divides itself up by distinct neighborhoods, each boasting a particular flavor. Baltimoreans have a strong sense of community which springs from affiliation in these neighborhoods, and this greatly diminishes the effects of large scale urban alienation so common in many other big cities. Baltimoreans are great connoisseurs of culture, and this means they take great pride in their food, art, and way of life.
