There are various types of plastics that are made from plastic extrusion. Some of these plastics include thermoplastics, film, sheet, tubing, pipes, insulation, and home siding. Other types of plastics that can be made from plastic extrusions include grocery bags and other similar items.

The key to making parts that provide the best performance and cost efficiency is by matching the right type of material to the right application or job requirement. When dealing with custom extrusions, most have to be made to exacting standards. This is why they are custom made. The shapes and sizes are crucial to the application they are need for.

As for the type of materials that are used in the extrusion process, these include the following:

• Rigid Vinyl: This type of material is used to produce plastics for various industries including residential, electrical, heating and air conditioning, construction, lawn and garden, appliances, automotive, plumbing, household accessories, industrial applications, telecommunications, marine applications, and more. Any industry that requires the plastic to be tough, resistance to chemicals, and has stability will be candidates.
• Flexible Vinyl: This material can be used in many of the same type of industries, including all those applications that are used in residential situations. Also the automotive field uses this type of plastic. Other industries include construction, electronics, heating, recreational applications like tents, swing sets, helmets, and anything related to recreation. Besides the above, industries that deal with lawns and gardens use this type of plastic. You will also find a majority of household utensils and containers use this plastic. This material is good for applications that require the plastic to be tough, resistant to corrosion, have a little bit of hardness and flexibility, and have stability.
• Polypropylene: You’ll see this plastic used where a combination of shapes and texture is required including toughness, resistance to chemicals, moisture, tear, and flexibility. Industries that use this plastic would include the automotive industry. This industry requires the use of many types of plastics instead of just one type. Other fields include the medical profession, anything to do with the industrial and residential construction, anything related to health and safety, household appliances and kitchen devices, water systems, textiles, and packaging.

There are more types that are used but these are the most used types you will find in manufacturing facilities that use plastic extrusion to make plastic products.

Today, you will find that plastics replaced many other types of materials that use to dominate the market. The reason is they are easier to manufacture and can be tougher, depending on the type of plastic used in the extrusion process. As time goes on you will no doubt see plastic being used to replace other materials that are most commonplace today.
