Manufacturers lose to use EDM for making parts. It helps to cut down on costs and have many more benefits. As a matter of fact there are three areas that manufacturers benefit the most when using EDM to manufacturer parts. Those these areas are tolerances, deadlines, and budgets. Each one will be discussed in turn below:

• Tolerances: EDM is used when tight tolerances are needed. This involves when making exotic materials that are too difficult to machine the regular way. The tolerances have to be held at a tight range at say +/-.0002 inches. The precision tooling involved has to be of top quality or else it will not suffice. EDM is also necessary when there is a need for consistency in making parts of the right size. And lastly, the parts must have straight edges. There can be no burrs or stress on the finished part.
• Deadlines: Another area that EDM is known to help and that is when the manufacturer faces tight deadlines. This is when the parts are needed by a certain time. EDM is also good for when you can’t find the right tools to shape and develop the parts required. Another good reason is when the tool and die department have so much work on their hands they can’t attend and work the EDM machines.
• Budgets: One last area that EDM is known to beneficial for is when manufacturers work on a budget. They know that they have only so much money to work with. So they can’t afford to buy a lot of intricately-shaped parts. So they depend on EDM machines to do it for them. They like using EDM machines when they don’t have time to consider the use of any other type of machine to do the job.
