Many products that are made today are made of plastic and thermoplastic. In order to make such products there is a way of producing the materials to that form the product. Machines are used to compress the material to form molds so that the material can be manufactured. By creating a mold, other products can be made easier. In some industries, a standard practice is to make molds by conventional means. This means pouring the material into a preformed container and placing that mold in a machine or refrigerator so it can harden. However, this type of molding leaves imperfections. A newer molding works in a different way. This way is known as compression molding. If you work in a shop or factory where plastics or thermoplastics are made for various things, you know how important it is to have molds that are of the right texture and form. Otherwise, if a defect was found, the product would not stand up under stressful conditions. By using this new type of molding, it makes better molds so better quality plastics are created. To understand this type of molding you have to know what it is and what it means. Plus it would be good to know what it does and how it helps the factory that uses it.

• Use original equipment: When using standard molding, every time a batch of material was done, a new mold had to be made. This required a new piece of equipment to be used, or a new mold to be produced.
• Reduces parts replacements: By using compression molding, you save on parts because you don’t have to get a new mold all the time. Just use the same one as you have been doing. This way you do not have to keep replacement parts around.
• Reducing downtime: When using compression molding you are reducing downtime because you don’t have to shut the machine down to remove or replace a mold or piece of equipment. Nothing is replaced therefore the machine continues to run.
• Noise reduction: Compression molding also reduces noise because you do not have the same type of machine working to produce molds. The molding process is done in a different way.
