Why are these crucial to a company?

Mission, vision and values are the wind and the sail of the company. They alone shape the organization and its culture.

Mission is essential to staying the course. Ebbs and flows in the economy – as well as lucrative business opportunities – can complicate the ability of an organization to stay true to its identity. A solid mission sounds as a battle cry, uniting all levels of an organization.

Vision is a compass to help you know where you’re headed as a company. It serves to inspire you to move forward and dream big dreams. Vision can be a double-edged sword, however. While vision within an organization is extremely important, its importance must not eclipse that of execution and implementation of day-to-day business operations. On the other hand, companies that lack vision are doomed to failure as the competition moves a step ahead.

Values are often the most recognizable of the three. Great companies with great values put their money where their mouth is. In other words, steadfast values yield results in the form of good employee benefit packages, positive community involvement and strong corporate cultures. Values are often the most outward sign for both employees and community of what your company is really all about.
