Maine is an all year destination for outdoor winter and summer activities as well as having some fabulous national parks.
· Winter Sports: Maine is the place to be for many of the winter sports like snowmobiling, skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing. There are many destinations to choose from like Sugarloaf/USA in Carrabassett Valley, Saddleback in Rangeley, and Titcomb Mountain in W. Farmington. For more information on these and other ski areas check out www.skimaine.com
· Can-Am Sled Dog Races: If observing is your idea of activity then you will want to see the Can-Am Crown, a qualifier for Alaska’s Iditarod in Fort Kent. You can watch from the start or finish line or from other spectator spots along the way. The races typically begin in March, for more information call 800-733-3563.
· Beaches: The Southern Maine Coast offers some wonderful beaches in places like York, Ogunquit, and Wells. This coastal region, located around 70 miles from Boston, is a popular destination for vacationers escaping for a weekend getaway.
· The Kennebec-Chaudiere International Corridor: For more than 3,000 years this corridor has been a route for trade and migration between Canada and the Gulf of Maine. Activities you can enjoy while traveling the corridor include swimming, canoeing,
kayaking, hiking, whitewater rafting, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. There are also historical sites, shops, and museums in the towns along the way.
· Acadia National Park: Acadia National Park is rated among the 10 most visited national parks in the country. It spans more than 35,000 acres of mountains, forest, lakes, and coastline. You can do everything in the park from camping, swimming, and hiking to cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
