Some of the less obvious attractions in Maine are their collection of museums and historical learning centers. Here are several different types of museums and centers you might find interesting:

·        Ogunquit Museum of American Art: Ogunquit is recognized for its white sandy beaches, but be sure not to miss out on all of the artsy galleries, especially the Museum of American Art. There you will find a collection of over 1500 works on display along with a fantastic view overlooking the ocean.
·        Cole Land Transportation Museum: This museum located in Bangor houses over 200 vehicles that take you through the “evolution of land transportation”. Some of the displayed items include carriages, bicycles, motorcycles, automobiles and railroad equipment.
·        A.E. Howell Wildlife Conservation Center: Located in North Amity, the center is known for its rehabilitation services to injured animals. One of these, a 1400 Bull Moose, is the largest known moose in captivity and has been featured on Animal Planet. There are many other animals to see during the guided tour, but appointments are required.
·        Downeast Heritage Center: Opened in 2004, the center highlights the past of the Downeast area of Maine including the history of the Passamaquoddy Native American tribe and the importance of the shipbuilding industry to the region.
