Moselle Valley

The Moselle Valley comprises the southeast portion of Luxembourg and receives its name from the Moselle River, which forms part of Luxembourg’s eastern border. The Moselle Valley has fewer than three hundred square miles, but it is a charming area, flatter and more agricultural (it is an extension of the French Lorraine region) than is much of Luxembourg.

If you search for the Moselle Valley on the Internet, you will see the same words over and over again: wine tasting. Moselle is well-known by wine aficionados, particularly for the region’s white wines, such as the Pinot Bland and Pinot Gris. Several cellars are open for public wine tasting; the Poll-Fabaire cellar in Wormeldange and St. Martin in Remich are two examples. In addition, several towns have grape and wine festivals and parades in both the spring and the fall.

Remich, which is on the Moselle River on the southeast edge of the country, is the Moselle Valley’s largest town and your best bet for lodging. Other towns include Schengen, at the southern tip of the country, and Wasserbillig, at the northern edge of the valley. Again, there is camping available in the area surrounding many Moselle towns.
