There are travel carriers made for all kinds of pets, from your tarantula to your Shih Tzu. Based on what kind of animal you have, they will have different needs in carriers. Here are some examples of what to look for in a travel carrier for various pets:

• Small critters. Anything from turtles and snakes to tarantulas and crickets should travel in plastic containers (not glass; you don’t want them to break). Just make sure that you have properly cleaned the containers before the traveling to remove chemicals and their smells.
• Fish. Your fish can travel in any containers like Tupperware if they will not be in there for a very long time (more than several days). If you wish, you can purchase battery operated air pumps for their containers which will allow them to live in them for longer periods of time.
• Birds. Many home cages for birds also work as travel carriers. However, if the bird’s normal cage is too large, you may purchase a smaller one. And if several birds will be traveling together, socks with holes cut out for the heads do well to keep the birds secure.
• Dogs and cats. These are very common carriers and are seen many places when traveling. They are available in large and small varieties and in many different materials, from crates to tents.
