So you’ve got your bag and your list of what to put in it. Now it’s time to pack it all. Follow these instructions to protect your clothing, keep them neat, and guard other items in the bag from harm.

• Place something like a sweat suit in the bottom of the bag. In case moisture soaks through the bottom of the bag, and since the stuff on bottom will be the most wrinkled, those items which will can wrinkle and get wet without causing you a lot of stress should be packed first.

• Use pieces of tissue paper or plastic in between each layer of clothing. This keeps your clothing from getting wrinkled.

• After you have packed the clothing, you will notice an empty space around all of the clothes; you can put your shoes here. If they are shoes that you care about (made of leather or another delicate material), they should be packed in shoe bags. Place the soles of the shoes against the walls of the suitcase, so that the shoe will not be crushed. Also consider using shoe trees, which help your shoes keep their form.

• Once the shoes are in place, stuff all soft items like linens and handkerchiefs into the empty spaces left. This will add cushioning and refuse to let other things shift during the travel.

• Place any hard items like hairdryers and toiletry bags in between layers of clothing. This will help prevent breakage.

• Make sure that all of your shirts, trousers, etc. have been folded neatly; with this care, they will arrive at your destination in good condition and ready to go.

• Your final layer should be something like a robe or some more plastic that can soak up any possible moisture coming in from the top of the bag.

• Do one final check to make sure that everything is firmly in place and moves as a single unit, and yet that nothing has been smashed down and forced to fit.
