75 Years of Decadence

Legalized gambling celebrated its 75th anniversary in Las Vegas, Nevada on March 19th, celebrating 75 successful years of bacchanalian depravity in the bustling city.

The state legalized casino gambling on March 19, 1931 to aid tourism and to replace the reliable tax base lost when the silver mining business left town. Little did they know they were embarking on a long, sordid path towards dominating the casino world.

It's unknown whether or not the town would have developed so quickly without having made the proverbial "deal with the devil" to legalize gambling. As far as I know, there's not exactly a plethora of reasons to live in the middle of the desert if there wasn't legalized gambling.

So here's to you, Las Vegas! May your decadence live on many a new year!
