Using an Electric Griddle

An electric griddle makes pancakes and many other foods simple to cook, but only if you know how to use your griddle. Read your owner’s manual for instructions specific to your model, but most electric griddles work in a similar fashion.

First, place your griddle on a dry, level, and heat-resistant surface near an electrical outlet. Next, set the griddle thermostat to a low temperature and plug in the cord. Let the griddle preheat to your desired temperature for five to ten minutes, and then place your food on the griddle surface

Cook on your griddle as you would with an oven. Monitor your food as it cooks, and change the heat as needed. Use a plastic spatula to flip your food (usually about halfway through the cooking time), and, if it is possible, scrape the grease away from the food and into the drip tray.

Don’t place the griddle into the oven or onto a stovetop burner, and avoid putting hot pots or pans onto the griddle. In this respect, treat your griddle like a skillet rather than like a stovetop; simply put your bacon and hamburgers, for example, directly onto the griddle.

With a temperature between three and four hundred degrees, you can cook most items quickly and easily on your griddle. Fried eggs take less than five minutes, as do pancakes and grilled cheese sandwiches. French toast takes close to ten minutes, on the other hand, while most meat products cook in approximately fifteen minutes.
