Types of Bar Stools

Bar stools are primarily used in restaurants, bars, kitchens, and game rooms. They are also a great way to provide extra seating. There are several types of bar stools. The following is a list of the different types of bar stools:

 

·        Backless Bar Stools vs. Bar Stools with Backs: When shopping for bar stools one of the first decisions you make will be whether you want a bar stool with a back or a backless one. Backless bar stools are lighter than those with backs. They are also easier to move around in. But they are usually much less comfortable to sit on for long periods of time. The decision between these two types of bar stool is really about personal preference.

·        Swivel vs. Stationary: Another decision you will be faced with when purchasing a bar stool is that of swivel or no swivel. A swivel bar stool allows the person sitting in it to change positions by only moving the seat of the stool. A stationary stool however forces someone sitting in it to physically move their body to change positions. If you choose to do work in a bar stool a swivel stool allows you the convenience of turning around to pick something up with out having to stand. For most situations a swivel bar stool is more convenient than a stationary one. Typically swivel bar stools are not more expensive than stationary ones.

·        Metal vs. Wooden: Metal bar stools are generally wrought iron, pewter, aluminum, or stainless steel. Metal bar stools are typically very durable. They can be very decorative and add spice to any room. Many metal bar stools do not offer seat backs where the majority of wooden ones do. Wooden bar stools come in finished and unfinished versions. Unfinished wooden bar stools give you the option to change the look of the bar stool with just a coat of paint or stain. Changing the cushion on the bar stool is also a great way to change its look. The choice between metal or wooden bar stools comes down to which material you prefer and the one that goes better with your home décor.

·        Leather vs. Upholstered: Often times bar stools are bought to add to a homes décor. Both leather and upholstered bar stools are pieces of furniture that can go in any room. They are also both extremely comfortable to sit in. Although upholstered bar stools are subject to stains there are fabrics that are made to repel stains. Upholstered bar stools also give you the option of change. If you’re decorating style changes you can always recover your bar stools. Leather bar stools come in many different colors giving you the option to match them to your home décor. A drawback of leather chairs is that they are expensive to repair.
