Start day four exploring the Piazza della Signoria, which you probably passed through in your visit to the Uffizi Gallery. The Piazza is considered the meeting place of both Florentines and tourists. There are numerous sculptures to examine, including a replica of Michelangelo’s famous David. The original stood in the square until it was moved indoors 1873 because of a concern for decay. Also situated on the square is the Fountain of Neptune, which was commissioned for Francisco I de Medici’s wedding.

When you are finished meandering around the square, make your way to the Palazzo Vecchio, by far the most famous and grand palace in Florence. Once home to the Medicis, it dates back to the 13th century, and it is architecturally marked by its imposing 308-foot tall tower. You can stroll the Hall of the 500 and view the Vasari frescos. The palazzo also contains numerous other significant artworks, including Michelangelo’s Victory.

If you still haven’t had your fill of treasured artwork, visit the Museo di San Marco, a small museum containing the works of the 15th century Florentine painter, Fra Angelico. He worked under the patronage of Cosimo dei Medici, producing such works as The Annunciation, and The Last Judgment.

Get to bed for some rest: tomorrow you head out of town!
