As Illinois was a major city on the rise, it was privileged to be awarded excellent railroad transportation for all locals that resided with the vicinity. 1855 was to see the biggest growth with routes developing directly from Chicago to Jacksonville and to the farthest southerly city of Cairo.
This resulted in great things for Illinois and this allowed all farming matter, ore and coal to be transported throughout the state with no problems occurring. It put Illinois on the map in terms of great economical developments which can still be seen today.
