Illinois is the first for many major mile stones and in the case of Carol Moseley Braun, this is no different.

She was the first African – American woman to be elected into the senate in 1992 and is remembered as the first black woman to emerge into office. Braun became a major political influence and made changes such as gun laws and education but in 1998 lost her place in the re-election bid. Just a year later, she was named as the ambassador of New Zealand. History has come a long way and in today’s society, colour doesn’t matter and to be honest why should it?

Braun has achieved so much over the years and even started her campaign to be the next U.S. President but pulled out in January 2004 giving opponent Howard Dean a glowing reference.
