In Southern, Western, and Northwestern Iceland there are many tourist sites including:
• Blue Lagoon. This mineral-full swimming and bathing pool is a famous relaxing spot for locals and tourists. It is located along the south coast, fifteen minutes from the Keflavík International Airport.
• Krísuvík. Another geothermal area, this area has steam vents, mud pools, and more. It’s located southwest of Hafnarfjörður.
• Þingvellir National Park. This park, 40 minutes outside of Reykjavik, has not only historical importance but also gorgeous views.
• Geysir. All geysers in the world were named after the Great Geysir north of Laugurvatn. Strokkur is a smaller site but more active, as it erupts every 5 minutes.
• Skálholt. This former cultural and religious center of Iceland is located near Laugarvatn.
• Hekla. This volcano used to be one of the most feared locations in the world. It still erupts rather frequently but is great to hike through. It’s situated to the southwest of Landmannalaugur.
• Þósmörk. Another great hiking location; Þósmörk is north of Eyjarfjallajökull.
• Western Fjords. These fantastic inlets are scattered all across the west of Iceland and simply must be visited.
