Houston was officially born in 1869, named after General Samuel Houston who originally joined the US Army and was later elected to congress serving under President Andrew Jackson. Despite the region losing out to Austin as state capitol this is not stop the residents of the time developing a port for shipping livestock and other farming materials throughout the world, it became known as one of the busiest ports in the country and it is the 4th largest city in the United States – just behind New York, Los Angles and Chicago but it is largest region throughout Texas and in the area, the population continues to grow.
