Using Your Flashlight

Store your flashlight in a convenient location and leave the batteries in it so that the flashlight is ready to use in an emergency. It is also a good idea to store your flashlight near any extra batteries you have; you won’t want to look for batteries in the dark when the flashlight dies.

Most families own more than one flashlight, but there is no rule on how many flashlights you should own. It is a good idea, however, to keep at least one flashlight in your home and one in your car. After all, you never know when you might need a flashlight.

• Flashlights provide light during power outages, including during natural disasters or emergencies

• Flashlights allow you work in hard-to-reach and shadowy places, such as underneath your car or in dark corners.

• Flashlights help you to camp safely and to explore dark areas, including caves.

• Flashlights let you hike in the woods at night without tripping over rocks and downed tree limbs.

• Flashlights help you search for items in basements and other areas with limited light.

• Flashlights provide a sense of security and can signal for help if you have car trouble.

These are only some of the most common uses; doubtless, you have used flashlights at many other times, perhaps during night games, hayrides, or midnight walks. After all, it’s dark twelve hours a day, so you have countless opportunities to use your flashlight.
