» Preparation to Install Wall Coverings
Once you have decided on the style that you want for your room and have purchased the wall covering to satisfy your desired look, it is time to get those walls ready for the installation of the wall covering. This is a very crucial step, which will insure the durability of your product, if installed correctly.
First, you want to make sure that the wall covering that you have bought all has the same dye lot or your colors may not match well. You also will want to verify that you have sufficient wallpaper for your room.
Next, you need to prepare your wall. In most cases, the manufacturers suggest first applying a primer and then a layer of paint. This is even suggested for new homes. Before applying the primer, old adhesive from former wallpaper has to be removed and unevenness or roughness needs to be smoothed out with spackling and sanding. A new concept that is hitting the market is called wall liners. These wall liners are used to cover problem walls before papering or painting. They are easy to install and do not shrink.
The last step before applying the paper or covering is to establish a plumb line for each wall.
Located at the end of this article, you will find many links that have very specific and helpful tips for do-it-yourself papering and wall covering. You do need to consider time and space and the type of room that you are covering, if you plan to do the job yourself.
