One of our first major arguments in marriage came as newlyweds when we decided to wallpaper our bathroom together. To this day, I do not know why we decided to wallpaper the bathroom in a rental apartment. The real “fun” began as we began to hang our wallpaper. My husband’s goal was to have the wallpaper up in one day. But my goal was perfection and attention to detail. Not only were these differences of personality working against us, but we picked the bathroom with all its mirrors and towel racks and shower stalls to go around. Our joint project ended with my husband declaring that he wanted to find the matches so that he could burn the whole project down, and I was left to meticulously finish the project by myself. The project did get completed, and looked pretty good considering the circumstances. But only after two episodes of my fingers being glued together by super glue (I used this to fix all the places where the wallpaper was not sticking to our improperly prepared wall) and not very pleasant memories for the love-struck newlyweds.
