Sometimes, in extreme cases such as fire restoration, high concentrations of ozone are used in the air only when people or pets are not present. For this reason, ozone can be used to help decontaminate an unoccupied space from chemical or biological contaminants or odors. However, there is very little information about the chemical by-products that could be left behind after the process is complete. In these cases, it has been shown that the high levels of ozone can negatively affect indoor plants and damage some materials like rubber, electrical wire coatings, fabrics, and art work.
