» What is a Medical Alarm Monitoring Service?
A monitoring service is a call center facility for Medical Alarms. It is usually staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The monitoring service receives the calls from the home system box, or the hardware inside the house.
Most monitoring services have 911 trained operators to help evaluate the severity of help requests. Monitoring service centers that are approved by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) have internal backup systems to ensure continuous availability.
Not all medical alert monitoring centers are the same, although they perform the same role. Many use their own employees to staff their monitoring center, but some outsource to other call centers. Some monitoring centers use only live operators to answer calls, while others route call to a voice mail. Other medical alert monitoring centers also monitor traditional home burglar alarms.
