HEPA filter information for each individual unit will inform you of how much air in how much time can be cleaned. By taking the square footage of a room or area, and determining the times per hour the air is “turned over” (or cleaned), the effectiveness of a specific HEPA filter can be determined. Basically, the more times the air is cleaned in one hour, the better the air quality and the more effective the HEPA filter unit.

In general terms, it is important to know that having a HEPA filter in one room will most likely not affect the air quality dramatically in other rooms. The ability to circulate the air in a room is an important factor in this consideration. For example, if you put a HEPA filter in your bedroom it will not increase the air quality in your den. This is true even if the unit you purchase has a rated capacity (in square feet) that is greater than the room it is located in. A HEPA filter is needed in every room that you want to drastically increase the air quality of.

To make sure that your HEPA filter works best, place it as close to the center of the room you want to increase the air quality of. Make sure that your HEPA filter is clean and unobstructed. Also, be sure to follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for size and area limitations.   Determine your needs and the area of space you want to operate your HEPA filter in and follow the manufacturer’s suggestions. It is always a good idea to consult with a professional to find a HEPA filter that best meets your needs.

Maintenance is extremely important; not only to ensure that your HEPA filter works properly, but that it lasts for its entire expected lifespan. Be sure to follow the cleaning and maintenance schedule recommended by the manufacturer of your HEPA filter. Do not hesitate to cleaning or change your HEPA filters more frequently than recommended by the manufacturer. Use your good judgment! If the filters of your unit are filthy and/or the unit is making a lot of noise, changing the filter will mean that your HEPA filter will breathe easier, thus work better. This will give you the added benefit of increased air cleansing, machine efficiency, reduced noise levels, and a longer lifespan of your HEPA filter.
