HEPA Filter Purchasing Tips

Like about anything you want to buy, you can spend relatively little money to incredible amounts of money on your HEPA filter. There are many manufacturers of HEPA filters and for the most part, independent of the manufacturer, most HEPA filters typically work the same way. Some considerations to make when purchasing your HEPA filter are:

·        Filter replacement: How often and what is the cost of filter replacement for the different models of HEPA filters? If a unit is much cheaper, but requires more frequent filter replacements, the cost in the long run could be significantly more overall for the initially less expensive unit. Do the math—figure out your costs over the expected lifetime of your HEPA filter unit.
·        Expense to operate: Is your HEPA filter going to dramatically increase your electricity bill? It is important to do the math and figure in all of the costs associated with having a HEPA filter running in your home.
·        Product and warranty information: What happens if something goes wrong with your HEPA filtering unit? Does the manufacturer offer a full or partial warranty on your unit? This is an especially important consideration if you are examining a more expensive unit. Consider this purchase an investment towards your quality of life. You probably research and consider all of your options when making other big ticket purchases and you should do the same when purchasing a HEPA filtering unit. If something goes wrong, your investment should be protected by a warranty.
·        Research and advice: Check out the consumer products research on the HEPA filter units you are interested in. See what other buyers have to say about the unit you are considering. Also, look at the consumer reports on these units. There is a ton of market research out there that uses qualified, measurable and independent research to test and grade these types of products. The more information you are armed with, the better decision you can make!
·        Your other needs: Consider your overall hopes and needs for your HEPA filter. How big is the space you want to use it in? Do you need a larger unit, or will a smaller one do? What types of “filtering” are you hoping to accomplish, and is the HEPA filter going to be enough to accomplish it, or do you need compatible technology? If you want to fight smells, too, for example…you probably need a combination of a HEPA and adsorption filter.

Taking all of these into consideration when purchasing your HEPA filter, will help you choose the brand and model that best fits your needs.
