» What can a furnace filter do for me?
Originally, furnace filters served the purpose of protecting the furnace and fans. However, they now are designed to reduce the exposure of people in a home to particles that can negatively affect their health. With increased air quality awareness, many studies have been done which show the variety of sources in a home from which come particles that we breathe. They include:
· Dust in the carpet and on surfaces that we disturb with simple activity
· Dust and soot from smoking, cooking, doing laundry, etc.
· Particles of skin and hair from humans and pets
· Particles from outside which come into your home in the air
Many of these particles are stopped by the body’s natural defenses, such as the nose and throat; but some do get into the lungs and become lodged, causing respiratory illness. Also many of these particles are allergens which irritate or worsen the allergic condition of those living in the home.
This is where furnace filters perform a great service to their owners. They reduce these particles in the home and thus keep the house cleaner and safer.
