Contact lenses come in several different forms which can be chosen from because of personal preference and/or the special needs of some eyes. Here are the major types of contacts:

• Soft contact lenses. Soft contacts come in two varieties – daily wear and extended wear. Basically, daily wear contacts are removed from the eyes before you go to bad; extended wears can be slept in. Soft lenses can also be purchased as disposables – which may last from one day to several months – or permanent lenses. In any case, soft lenses are created from thin, flexible water and other material.
• Hard contact lenses. These were the original contacts and are now pretty much obsolete. They were much less comfortable than the common contact lenses that now allow your eyes to breathe. When people say hard lenses in modern days, they’re probably really referring to the next category – gas-permeable lenses.
• Gas-permeable lenses. These come in two kinds – Rigid Gas Permeables and Oxygen Permeables. Although they may slide out of place more easily than soft lenses when the wearer is involved in sports or other vigorous activities, they offer very clear vision for people with certain eye conditions, and they’re available in bifocals.
