The amount of time that it takes for people to get used to contacts varies based on the kind of contacts in question as well as the person wearing them and their eyes. Gas Permeable (or hard) lenses often take anywhere between a few weeks to a couple of months to feel completely comfortable for extended periods of time. Soft lenses usually only take people between a couple of days to a week to get used to.
The problems that new contact wearers may experience vary. However, people with dry eyes will probably notice a greater difficulty adjusting to their lenses – if they can adjust at all. For others, the symptoms are usually among this list:
• Irritation of the eyes
• Redness of the eyes
• Excess tearing
• Sensitivity to light
• Occasional blurred vision
