Why are air purifiers needed?

Once upon a time, purifying the air would have consisted of opening up all of the home’s windows and letting the fresh breeze do its work. Or, perhaps, an afternoon or evening swinging on the front porch or going for a walk would have served the purpose of getting some fresh air. But today, with out crowded schedules full of work, classes, appointments, meetings, and indoor entertainment, the need for freshening the air inside our homes is much more important—and harder to do. In fact, the Environmental Protection Agency estimates that indoor air is two to five times dirtier than outdoor air, with Americans spending about 90 percent of their time indoors.

We now live in a world that demands airtight housing, making homes and buildings more energy efficient. However, these airtight buildings just recirculate the same air—and contaminants—all day long, causing us to breathe dirty air, essentially. From pet dander and dust mites to mold, pollen, and smoke, and everything in between, our air is full of pollutants that cause irritation, and even illness, sometimes serious illness. The quality of the air we breathe greatly affects our health, and the quality of the lives we live. Clean air isn’t just a matter of pleasantry; it’s a matter of health. One way to help improve your environment is by using an air purifier. This machine was created to help remove some of these pollutants from our homes, and to help us breathe easier and live more healthy lives.

Different air purifiers use different techniques to clean the air, including mechanical filters, charcoal absorbents, and electrostatic chargers or ionizers. Some air purifiers emit ions into the air to react with contaminants, rendering them less harmless to breathe. No air purifier, however, can completely clean the air. It’s wise to use natural techniques (some are listed below) to help keep your air quality high—and your air toxins low.
