Your purpose for having an air purifier filter can vary greatly from wanting to removing odors from your home to protecting the fragile health of a family member. Your reasons for having an air purifier filter should dictate which type you purchase. The purpose of air purifier filters is to remove the offending pollutant or irritants from the air. Having an air purifier filter is no replacement for addressing any serious medical problems or dealing with serious household contaminations, nor is it a way of avoiding necessary household maintenance. Some common reasons for air purifying filters are:

·        Chemical Allergies or MCS (Multiple Chemical Sensitivity): Removing the source of the contaminating chemical is a NECESSITY for ensuring that an air purifier filter will help alleviate this type of allergy. Adsorption will be the best type of air purifier filter for chemical allergy relief. It is designed specifically with chemical adsorption in mind.
·        Pollen, Mold and Dust Allergies: HEPA (mechanical) and electronic air purifying filter are the most effective methods for dealing with these types of air particle pollutions. This is one of the most common reasons people purchase air purifying filters.
·        Asthma: Mechanical and adsorption air purifying filters can be incredibly helpful when dealing with and controlling asthma that is induced by less than perfect air quality conditions. Since asthma can be triggered by smells, chemicals and/or particles in the air, it is best to utilize the air purifying filter technology that helps control all of these problems.
·        Pet Allergies: Short of not having pets, maintaining a clean living space is imperative in addition to having an air purifying filter. Cats are especially notorious for causing pet allergies, as they are usually industrious self-cleaners by licking. Their saliva, once dried, becomes an air-borne dust that can cause serious allergic reactions to humans. Of course, smells must also be addressed along with pet allergies. These two primary reasons behind pet allergies make a combination of mechanical and electrostatic air purifying filters the most effective.
·        Smoke and Other Smells: Adsorption is the most effective type of air purifying filter for removing tough smells from your living space. Smoke smells, particularly cigar smoke, are difficult to remove when someone is actually smoking in a room. There are multiple pollutants released in smoke, including gases and particles, therefore a combination of an adsorption and mechanical air purifying filters are the best for dealing specifically with cigarette or cigar smoke. There are many air purifying filters on the market that deal specifically with smoking.
·        Viruses and Bacteria: Ultra violet light is necessary for air purifying filters to kill bacteria and viruses. Mechanical and adsorption methods then help to remove them from the air. Usually, these are the methods recommended for helping spread contamination in homes where someone is being protected from infection or someone is already ill and needs extra protection.
