» Can I make my own decorative throw?
If you have a sewing machine and you’d like a fun new craft project, consider making your own decorative throw. Even if you’re not an experienced quilter, a decorative throw made from bargain bin fabrics can become a beautiful and inexpensive alternative to a purchased throw.
If you don’t have material scraps already at home that you’d like to use, go to curtain, decorator, or material stores, and see what fabrics they have at low costs because they’re almost out. Some stores even give away their end-of-range fabric samples in conveniently coordinating colors. Make sure the materials you choose are roughly the same weight and don’t have backing on them. This will prevent problems putting the materials together later.
Finally, either purchase a blanket pattern, or design you own. With a little sewing and possibly some ornamentation (tassels… beads… whatever you like), you can have an inexpensive decorative throw made exactly the way you want.
